VCC AmeriCorps Multicultural Youth Program Mentor (Ed Award)

This position is part of The Vermont Campus Compact (VCC) AmeriCorps Pathways Program, hosted by the Vermont Higher Education Council (VHEC). VCC AmeriCorps is a state-wide AmeriCorps program designed to partner with college campuses and community partners across Vermont in order to A) increase college aspirations and readiness among low-income and rural youth, and B) increase college persistence, retention, and success among first-generation and otherwise underrepresented college students. Spectrum’s mission is to empower teenagers, young adults, and their families to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills services. • We envision a world where those who face great challenges realize their vast human potential. • We believe people can change their lives. • We believe this happens when people find their motivation to change. • We believe that as people change their lives, the individual, family and community are transformed. New in 2015, Spectrum’s Multicultural Youth Program works with teenagers and young adults from diverse backgrounds, with a focus on working with youth and their families who may self-identify as multicultural or as New American. Our goal is to help them connect to resources, services, and programs in the community, develop leadership and peer mentoring skills, and gain the knowledge, life skills, and encouragement to success on their particular paths of education and growth.
