Manchester Police Athletic League Development VISTA
 
 
 
The Manchester Police Athletic League (MPAL) is a center city organization that brings cops and kids together through athletic, academic, and recreational opportunities to build champions in and out of the gym. MPAL is supported by the Manchester Police Department and all programs are 100% free serving ages 5-18. MPAL strives to develop participants to become contributing members of the community. MPAL is located in the inner city of Manchester serving 90% of low income at risk children and teens. The community surrounding MPAL is: The community is low poverty and high crime. Currently, MPAL serves between 50 and 100 youth each day. While MPAL welcomes all youth, the identified demographic served are the underserved youth populations from the center city of Manchester. There are approximately 8,600 youth who reside within one mile of MPAL. Of those, an estimated 30% live below the poverty line and 24% are minorities.

Member Duties : Working alongside the Executive Director, the VISTA member’s project will include full support of all fundraising activities with a specific goal of achieving sustainable practices. The full year of activity will be expected to yield more than $30,000 of funds raised by various activities. This figure will be a combination of support through grants, community connections and volunteer hours. All support will be used to enhance youth programming in low-income communities in which MPAL serves.
