Rural Opportunity VISTA Project-Pennies from Heaven

The Rural Opportunity VISTA Program hosts ten AmeriCorps VISTA members statewide who focus on creating or expanding anti-poverty programs in rural Michigan. The program director and VISTA leader are based in Lansing, but we have nine additional openings which are mostly in northern Michigan. Each member will focus on building programming that benefits their individual communities. However, all members will benefit from the same professional development training during their service terms. Members will attend four in-person trainings in Lansing and will be provided with opportunities to attend two statewide conferences. In addition, members will receive professional development funds that are meant to be used to help members prepare themselves for what comes next after AmeriCorps. Finally, members will be invited to two AmeriCorps events- one large scale service project and a one-day mini-conference in which they will have the opportunity to network with and get to know other AmeriCorps members in Michigan.
