Rebuilding Detroit Neighborhoods
 
 
 
The VISTA member will be a part of the Departmentof Neighborhoods team within the City of Detroit Mayor's Office. VISTA members will serve in one of seven Council Districts with the District manager to expand and strengthen community engagement efforts, particularly through block clubs and neighborhood organizations. As part of this program, VISTAs will be taking a deep dive into Detroit Neighborhoods by riding along with the District Managers, attending sessions on best practices for engaging and building Block Clubs, and coordinating and organizing blight elimination efforts in each district to address vacant blighted properties. Key objectives and the activities will include: • Create and expand block clubs and block captains in areas currently not organized. o Organize and host community workshops, fairs, trainings and other meetings, in coordination with the District Manager to provide support and information to residents and local leaders • Organizing volunteer blight mitigation and beautification projects in the district, working with local leaders to identify priority sites, supervise volunteers, and determine ways to sustain improvements over time • Strengthen code enforcement efforts in the district through the District Blight Strike team meetings and other efforts. o Track completion of actions/recommendations outlined at monthly meetings and hold team accountable to completing objectives.
