MLK VISTA Leader at Solid Ground

The Martin Luther King Jr. VISTA Corps is a diverse team dedicated to ending poverty in Seattle and King County. We partner with non-profit organizations, where MLK VISTA members work in the capacity of developing, implementing and managing new projects for their project sites. Many of our projects focus in the areas of housing and homelessness, employment, access to technology and family support. We aim to build a learning community focusing on leadership/professional development through bi-weekly team meetings and workshops with an anti-racism and social justice framework. MLK VISTA Leaders work to provide member support and development, member and site recruitment and retention as well as community outreach and collaboration. This may look like leading and facilitating discussions about anti-racism and social justice, conflict resolution, leadership development, communication skills and strategizing, and community building as well as collaborating with various community leaders, organizations, and cultivating cross-corps opportunities for interaction. MLK VISTA Leaders support Members in creating connections between the analysis-building discussions we have as a learning community and the work they are doing at their project sites. As a Corps we work to collaborate and find solutions to end poverty by working with all people and cultures with an emphasis on communities of color. We work to be accountable to the people we serve, and do work that is relevant to the health and wellbeing of the community. We support, cultivate and nurture the natural leadership that exists within the communities we serve. MLK VISTA is a learning program that continually incorporates lessons learned from people affected by poverty and racism, including but not limited to community elders, social justice and undoing racism scholars and educators.
