Outreach Fort Collins

Outreach Fort Collins (OFC) is a program serving the downtown community of Fort Collins, Colorado. OFC was formed through a collaboration of multiple agencies, business owners and community members with the multi-faceted mission of maintaining downtown Fort Collins as a safe and welcoming place while connecting our community’s most vulnerable to the services and supportive networks they need. Ultimately, a task force including City of Fort Collins – Office of Social Sustainability, Homeward 2020, Downtown Development Authority, SummitStone Health Partners, UC Health, Homeless Gear and the Fort Collins Police Department came together to develop a proactive approach to support the downtown area of Fort Collins including individuals and families experiencing homelessness, anyone living with mental health or substance use disorders, businesses and merchants, visitors and other service providers who are based in the Old Town area through professionalized street outreach services. One of the main concerns faced by the downtown community is the volume of calls that police services respond to where no illegal behaviors are happening. These calls are often regarding individuals who are homeless or experiencing mental illness or substance use issues in public areas. OFC is intended to be an additional layer of support to clients. We view our clients as: store owners and staff, other downtown businesses, visitors, downtown residents, those who are experiencing homelessness in the downtown area, and those who are disconnected from services. Currently there are many agencies who offer support to the homeless in our community, but no other service providers are doing on-call or on-street daytime outreach to this vulnerable population in Fort Collins. Our on-call team will be able to respond to concerns from businesses, visitors and vulnerable residents as well as proactively initiate these contacts to connect those in need with appropriate resources and support in real time.
