Reading is FUNdamental Coordinator

Reading is FUNdamental: a youth lead and developed literacy project designed to reach out to elementary age youth and their families living in low income apartment complexes located in the Building Healthy Communities designated areas of South Sacramento. The Project goal is to expose participants and families to the joy and love of reading through this three pronged approach: 1) Provide well trained local high school students as reading mentors. 2) Connect local library staff and their resources directly to the youth participants and their families. 3) Provide free books for participants to take home. The VISTA will be instrumental in working with staff and youth to create this program and provide a plan for sustainability long after the service term.
