Cape Cod Homeless Prevention Council VISTA Opportunity

The Homeless Prevention Council provides professional case management for individuals and families at risk of becoming homeless. HPC helps them to apply for fuel assistance programs, food stamps, WIC, childcare vouchers, and to gain access to food pantries, free clothing, and short-term financial assistance programs to pay for a one-time car repair or daycare cost. Once stabilized, HPC can help them to address any underlying issues contributing to their housing and financial problems. In addition to HPC's primary case management services, HPC has several programs designed for special support to families including Backpack to School and Adopt a Family. About our location: In addition to containing a sizable year-round population, Cape Cod is a summer tourist destination, and as such experiences large fluctuations in population between the summer and off-season months. This is particularly true on the Lower Cape, the region of Cape Cod our organization serves and resides within. Our community is known for its natural beauty and New England charm. Provincetown, the outermost town of the Lower Cape, is particularly well-known for its lively and highly artistic culture, particularly in the summer months. The eight towns of the Lower Cape are rural, and public transportation is limited, making access to a personal vehicle of high importance. Affordable housing is also very limited, and year-long rentals can be difficult to attain. It is therefore essential to ensure access to stable housing for the term of service before committing to our project. Joining our project brings exciting opportunities to learn more about housing and homelessness, case management, and nonprofit marketing and management. HPC can offer opportunities for training and related travel expenses related to the goals of the VISTA assignment description. Learn more about HPC at www.HPCCapeCod.org.
