*MTCC AmeriCorps Leader - Institute for Ed-Montana Tech

The Institute for Educational Opportunities at Montana Tech is a consortium of programs developed to provide K-12 and college students with the tools and support they need to achieve success in higher education. Poverty in the area is high with more than 1 in 5 families in the living in poverty. 76% of adults in the target area do not have a bachelor’s degree which is higher than the state average of 8%. The high poverty and low educational attainment levels effect academic achievement and aspirations of area youth as evidenced by only 72% of students persisting from one grade level to the next and only 71% graduation rate in the standard number of years. The Montana Tech-based MTCC AmeriCorps Leader will support and lead a team of 6 college student MTCC AmeriCorps members to engage K-12 youth in mentoring activities designed to help them consider, plan for, and prepare for postsecondary education at Butte High, Anaconda High, Ramsay, the Legion Oasis and Kids Coalition. Each MTCC AmeriCorps Leader will commit to serving a 1700 hour term of service (approximately 35-40 hours/week) and will engage in all required MTCC in-person and webinar trainings. They will maintain a working relationship with Site Supervisor for reporting about AmeriCorps Team activities and will ensure proper documentation and contact information for MTCC AmeriCorps. Successful Leader candidates will serve as College Positive role models and be passionate about creating equitable opportunities and addressing barriers for all youth to attend college.
