Advancement Foundation - Environmental Agriculture Project

The Advancement Foundation works to eradicate poverty by leveraging community resources - government, nonprofits, businesses, churches, and individuals. We subscribe to the "Teach a Man to Fish" philosophy rather than to hand him a fish! Civic engagement through volunteerism serves a major role in The Foundation’s programs. Volunteerism is a resource to engage all socio-economic levels from the community. Barriers that exist day to day seem to dissolve when everyone is standing side by side. TAF leads community improvement through nonprofit sustainability and individual advocacy. Individual advocacy centers on empowering citizens through personal, community, and financial asset development. The Foundation’s VISTA projects seek to create partnerships, mentor children, improve food security, improve financial knowledge, increase financial security, develop job-seeking/keeping skills, remediate housing, and train entrepreneurs. Lack of training, funding, affordable space, and support paralyze most business owner hopefuls before they even begin. The HIVE, TAF’s business incubation center, believes that the grassroots community involvement and support provides distinct advantages for small business development. Through our workshops, and partnerships entrepreneurs and community mentors experience a strong sense of purpose and excitement working together. To ensure that our VISTAs are equipped for service, The Advancement Foundation provides 2 annual training sessions that includes personal and professional development. The retreat sessions are led by professional conference leaders and provide additional opportunities for creative thinking.
