HAH National - Community Food Share Colorado

The Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) project at Community Food Share in Louisville, CO, will strengthen and sustain systems for community-based volunteer recruitment, community outreach & development, farmer engagement and produce recovery support in order to expand area gleaning capacity. Captured produce through the gleaning effort will be distributed through the local hunger response network to benefit individuals and families in need who may live at or below federal levels of poverty. Rotary First Harvest’s program, Harvest Against Hunger, acts as a program incubator and catalyst, utilizing a team of AmeriCorps VISTA who build sustainable gleaning and produce recovery programs. This includes coordinating volunteer groups to glean and harvest produce, and addressing issues and challenges related to supply chain management – like the transportation and distribution of gleaned produce. It also aims to involve the larger community in addressing food insecurity through encouraging individuals and farmers to intentionally plant in order to donate. www.firstharvest.org
