Harvest Against Hunger National - Florida Gleaning

In Orlando, Florida, the Harvest Against Hunger VISTA project is located at the Florida Gleaning Project of the Society of St. Andrew (SoSA). The Harvest VISTA will strengthen and refine a sustainable system for state wide gleaning efforts, including volunteer coordination, grower outreach, grant writing and communication of SoSA’s mission to churches, community organizations, conventions, civic groups, and potential supporters. The Harvest VISTA will build systems that increase access of fresh and nutritious produce for food insecure individuals who often live at or below federal levels of poverty. Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) is a program of Rotary First Harvest. Based in Seattle, the HAH program acts as a gleaning and produce recovery program incubator, working with partner host sites to place AmeriCorps VISTAs across Washington State and in a national cohort. These VISTA members serve as gleaning coordinators, building localized, sustainable produce recovery programs that grow connections between farmers and food banks to increase the amount of fresh nutritious produce available to people experiencing food insecurity. Are you interested in hunger relief, food waste, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, or public health? Want to build your skills as a community organizer and leader by creating community buy-in and strengthening relationships between food banks and farmers? Interested in capacity building and program sustainability? Come join a network of committed AmeriCorps VISTA to increase the healthy food accessible to food insecure populations.
