Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation-AWARENESS , OneStar
 
 
 
The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation (BBHLF) mission is to improve the quality of life of Houstonians across all age groups through the power of literacy. Specifically, there are four categories of focus that include 1) children from birth to kindergarten, 2) children in kindergarten through third grade, 3) adolescents in grades four through 12, and 4) and adults. Each of these populations are effected by low literacy rates resulting in a crisis that Houston must tackle. To do this, we have worked with community stakeholders to create a Blueprint for Action. We need VISTAs to help the organization serve as a champion for the literacy cause in Houston by uniting literacy organizations around common messages and consistent data and providing timely and relevant information to the community.

Member Duties : The Awareness and Communications VISTA will expand community knowledge and support of the Houston Literacy Blueprint for Action and the Houston Literacy Crisis. Specifically, the VISTA will leverage social media across literacy partners to expand outreach and increase the number of Houstonian's connected to literacy information; Develop a calendar of literacy events across the city, state and nationally at which literacy messaging and resources may be used/promoted; create and edit quarterly newsletter content; and Develop literacy communicators toolkit and provide system for outreach and roll-out across nonprofits, districts and other partners.
 
Program Benefits : Relocation Allowance ,  Training ,  Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend ,  Childcare assistance if eligible ,  Living Allowance ,  Health Coverage* ,  *Housing stipend - $100 per month .
