SYVISTA: West Seattle Helpline Outreach Coordinator

Sound Youth VISTA recruits and places full time AmeriCorps*VISTA members who spend a year building capacity at youth serving organizations working against poverty. Our VISTAs help their service sites sustainably build capacity to equip young people with the job skills, education, healthy start, mentorship, and other kinds of support they need to move permanently out of poverty. During their service, Sound Youth trains members in social justice issues relevant to their work and personal development, and offers the support of a team of VISTAs. Sound Youth has a commitment to diversity and inclusion. People of color, people with disabilities, LGBTIQ people, and people whose experiences and identities reflect those of the communities served are strongly encouraged to apply. This VISTA placement is with the West Seattle Helpline. Their mission is: to empower our neighbors to regain their self-sufficiency after facing an emergency or unexpected hardship. We fulfill our mission by providing information, referrals, clothing, bus tickets, and rent and utility assistance to help low-income families in need. We strive to strengthen our community through our philosophy of “neighbors helping neighbors.”
