New Day Services for Children and Families rebuilds children’s lives by helping their fathers and mothers gain the tools they need to redirect their lives. New Day has provided services to families in distress since 1997 in Tarrant County, mostly through the family court system, the child welfare system and the juvenile system. The mission of our new project, the Fatherhood EFFECT Program, is to intervene with at risk families and provide education and concrete services to fathers, redirecting their lives to avoid any potential intervention agency contact and guide them away from the Child Welfare and Criminal Justice Systems. The individuals and families, who wish to access services and are in family crisis, are challenged with economic instability, transportation issues and often have insufficient life skills to manage everyday problems. New Day’s Fatherhood EFFECT Program centers on engagement and solution driven skills to fathers to strengthen families in Denton County, which can break down these barriers. The Community Outreach VISTA will assist the Denton County team in community outreach and collect information from community services that EFFECT can tap into for clients, and become a source of community education. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of his or her time in an office setting. However, the New Day Services VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by developing an outreach strategy and mapping resources for the client and their families. As a New Day Services VISTA you will be part of a cohort coordinated by the AmeriCorps VISTA North Texas project at Chisholm Trail RSVP, Inc. Early applications strongly encouraged. Member Duties : As a Community Outreach VISTA at New Day Services, you will help end poverty by rebuilding the lives of Denton County children and helping parents gain the tools they need to redirect their lives. Major functions will include accelerating the number of information contacts we are able to make in the community; providing support to the Mentor-Navigators; accompanying them on presentations; and making outreach calls to community services and providers to see how the Fatherhood EFFECT Program benefits the fathers in their programs. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the Community Outreach VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with New Day Services’ clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants should possess good public speaking and communications skills, proficient computer skills, the ability to multi-task and have a positive attitude.
