Communities in Schools of GA VISTA

Communities In Schools of GA's VISTA Project seeks to provide solutions to Georgia's high school drop out rate. CIS VISTAs will promote and document effective partnerships between parents, schools, stakeholders, and community organizations in order to build public awareness of the needs of youth in CIS/school communities and the responsibility of all to address these needs and encourage increased involvement in the sustained service program including increasing and sustaining volunteerism while growing new services and connections. The project places VISTA members in various communities throughout Georgia, including Marietta, Washington, Eastman, Fitzagerald, McDonough, and Atlanta. These members create the infrastructure for high quality, sustainable prevention and intervention programming such as mentoring, tutoring, life skills, etc. programs to provide positive alternatives for at risk youth. This includes volunteer recruitment and training to support programming. Duties will include indirect services to youth, as the focus for VISTAs is to build capacity. Additionally, members maybe required to provide fundraising and grantwriting assistance. VISTA Member applicants will be required to have access to or possess reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
