Legal Aid Society’s Economic Development Program VISTA

The Legal Aid Society VISTA member will fight poverty and build the capacity of Legal Aid Society by developing and implementing an educational training and free legal services program targeted to low-income individuals who are planning or sustaining small business enterprises that will provide increased household income and family economic stability. New community partnerships with small business development institutions and community agencies offering related services will be established and cultivated. Likewise, community pro bono resources will be cultivated to assist Legal Aid in this venture. A comprehensive toolkit on how to address the common legal issues involved in creating or sustaining a small business enterprise will be developed. As a result of the VISTA member’s service, low-income individuals seeking to start or sustain a small business enterprise will increase and the low-income individuals participating in the program will see an increase in household income from these enterprises.
