Youth and Family Counseling located in Lewisville, TX provides quality mental health care at a cost affordable to all income levels. Youth and Family Counseling was founded in 1981 by the Police Chiefs of Lewisville, Flower Mound, and Highland Village. Their goal was to create a First Offender Program that would serve as a means to divert youthful offenders from the juvenile justice system. The founders incorporated family participation because of the evidence that many adolescents' first violations coincided with times of family stress, such as a divorce, terminal illness, job loss, or the arrival of a step parent. The goal of Youth and Family Counseling is to aid the families and children of Denton County, thereby creating healthy and productive individuals, families, and communities which will benefit the quality of life for all. The Grants and Resource Development VISTA at Youth and Family Counseling will build the agency’s financial capacity and increase the quality mental health services offered to children and adults in Denton County Texas. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of his or her time in an office setting. However, the Youth and Family Counseling VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by assisting the agency to provide free services to juveniles referred by police, courts, and schools through the First Offender and At-Risk Kids Programs, thus keeping them in school and out of the juvenile justice system. As a Youth and Family Counseling Grants and Resource Development VISTA you will be part of a cohort coordinated by the AmeriCorps VISTA North Texas project at Chisholm Trail RSVP, Inc. Member Duties : As a VISTA at Youth and Family Counseling, you will help end poverty by writing grants and developing resources to help keep at-risk children in school and out of the juvenile justice system. Major functions will include researching and submitting a minimum of 4 grants with a total potential outcome of $75,000, enhancing existing fundraising efforts as well as researching and implementing small-scale fundraising opportunities. The VISTA will also recruit volunteers to assist with fundraising efforts. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the Grants and Resource Development VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with Youth and Family Counseling clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants should possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
