Interfaith Ministries of Denton, Inc., located Denton, TX provides emergency basic needs assistance to people in Northern Denton County with the goal of helping them to become self-sufficient. Beginning in 1991, several area churches came together to provide multiple services under one roof in a central downtown location. The churches pooled resources, freeing their own church ministers and staff from providing fragmented services. Today, Interfaith serves over 3,000 people a year as the primary resource for emergency basic needs assistance in Northern Denton County. The Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination VISTA at Interfaith Ministries will build capacity by increasing the effectiveness of current agency practices and develop new strategies to retain current volunteers as well as to recruit new volunteers. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of his or her time in an office setting. However, the Interfaith Ministries VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by recruiting and training at least 20 new volunteers as well as tracking and recognizing existing volunteers over the course of the project to support Interfaith Ministries’ programs, events and fundraisers designed to benefit people experiencing financial crisis in Northern Denton County. As an Interfaith Ministries Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination VISTA you will be part of a cohort coordinated by the AmeriCorps VISTA North Texas project at Chisholm Trail RSVP, Inc. Member Duties : As a Volunteer Recruitment VISTA at Interfaith Ministries, you will help end poverty by developing a volunteer program to provide emergency basic needs assistance to the agency’s clients. Major functions include recruiting 20 new volunteers through community outreach and free advertising opportunities, developing an interview and training process, creating schedules for events, tracking volunteer activities, and developing a recognition plan for volunteers. The VISTA member will update the volunteer training manual and publish newsletters detailing the activities of and recognizing volunteers. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with Interfaith Ministry clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants should possess good communication and writing skills, be outgoing and enjoy engaging people of all ages.
