QT: Community Youth Concepts Mentor Advantage Program
 
 
 
This is a quarter time position (450 hours). The AmeriCorps Mentoring member with Community Youth Concepts (CYC) will work with the Mentor Advantage Program, a CYC career-based mentoring program, and will work to coordinate joint marketing efforts among seven certified mentoring programs in Polk County that are part of the Be A Mentor mentor recruitment campaign. This position is part of a larger network of AmeriCorps members. The Iowa Department of Public Health AmeriCorps Mentoring Program is a new statewide initiative through the Division of Behavioral Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse. This program focuses on building capacity and sustainability in youth-serving mentoring programs and enhancing impact related to substance abuse prevention. Members will be placed at mentoring programs statewide to help strengthen the areas of building community partnerships, mentor/mentee recruitment, mentor/mentee or parent training, curriculum development, and sustainability planning.

Member Duties : Recruit and support youth to participate in mentoring programs through marketing efforts aimed at providers and schools. Recruit at least five new mentors for the CYC mentoring program and at least twenty new mentors for the Be A Mentor marketing initiative. Assist in the development of a sustainability plan to ensure the long-term growth and development of the CYC mentoring program and the Be A Mentor marketing initiative. Work with local experts to present at least three trainings on substance abuse prevention and reach a minimum of sixteen individuals through those three trainings. Distribute and collect releases for student participation; maintain and uphold student confidentiality practices and policies. Accurately and professionally discuss with community partners and volunteers the objectives of AmeriCorps, the Be A Mentor marketing initiative, and the CYC Mentor Advantage Program.
