Near Eastside Education AmeriCorps

As a program of John Boner Neighborhood Centers and a key strategy of the IndyEast Promise Zone, we achieve our mission by positively affecting the socio-emotional development of youth aged PreK through Grade 6, and enveloping our neighbourhood parents in a supportive and empowering community. Partnering with schools, day cares, and youth-serving organizations, we train and equip AmeriCorps members to assist youth in developing the self-confidence, as well as the emotional, social, and behavioural skills they need to be the best learners that they can be. AmeriCorps members will also build transformational relationships with neighbourhood parents to empower parents to leverage community resources as a primary support network. This could include introducing them to community leaders who are redeveloping their communities, connecting them to local parent support groups, or making referrals to neighbourhood organizations that will work with them to achieve their family goals (i.e. financial literacy coaches, affordable home-ownership programs, fresh produce community gardens and food pantries, etc.). With strong community networks and support systems in place, parents are better positioned to provide a stable home life that is conducive to supporting their children's educational excellence.
