Winston Salem Community Action Coalition
 
 
 
The Winston-Salem Community Action Coalition focuses on four areas: 1) Access to affordable housing; 2) Public health and substance abuse prevention; and 3) Programs to train individuals and improve access to employment; and 4) K-12 education and mentoring programs. We partner with lead organizations in each area, and work with a network of several other affiliated agencies, organizations, and cooperatives.

Member Duties : The key objectives of the project include: Reduce poverty in Winston-Salem through increased access to housing, financial asset-building and literacy, and employment; Align objectives of the Mayor’s Thought Force on Poverty with new or existing programs and initiatives in the Winston-Salem community; Recruit and train volunteers in partnership with community-based organizations; Evaluate programs and initiatives for community impact. Each VISTA member will play a central role in executing the goals of the project. We will place ten AmeriCorps*VISTA members who focus on: (a) housing, (b) one to public health and substance abuse prevention, (c) employment, and (d) partnership development and grant-writing, (e) senior services, (f) education and mentoring.
