THN VISTA Coordinated Entry Specialist (Denton)

In 2012, new Continuum of Care (CoC) regulations initiated by the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act came into effect, shifting the expectations and mechanisms for providing social services to clients experiencing homelessness. One of the most important requirements posited by this legislation was the emphasis upon establishing centralized Coordinated Entry (CE) programs in all CoC systems. CE is designed to maximize available social service resources by negating duplications and prioritizing resources for clients with the most pressing needs. High-fidelity CE programs are expected to champion proactive Housing First solutions to end homelessness and counteract the systemic roots of homelessness. As the lead agency for the Texas Balance of State Continuum of Care (BoS CoC), Texas Homeless Network (THN) is responsible for working with the predominately rural communities that makeup the Balance of State (BoS) CoC to help implement CE programs. Unfortunately, due to lacking capacity in these areas, THN has struggled to make this transition. With the help of VISTA support, THN can confidently take a bold step forward in this process.
