Mentor Program Coordinator: BeFriend-A-Child

Virginia Mentoring Partnership (VMP), is a statewide organization focused on the expansion of research based, high-quality mentoring in Virginia. VMP is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to our vision that every child who needs a mentor has a mentor. VMP's mission is to provide training and technical assistance to mentors and mentoring programs to increase the quality and quantity of mentoring for Virginia's youth. VMP has a team of full-time VISTA members, to support the host organization's internal capacity focusing on: Program Development, Volunteer Recruitment, Mentor/Mentee Training, Match Support, and Resource Development. VMP works with host sites by recruiting, training, and placing talented applicants. During your year of service, you will be serving with BeFriend-A-Child in Fairfax, VA to support the development of mentoring programs at that organization.

Member Duties : Create a stronger future for youth who have been abused and neglected in Fairfax, VA. This position, which is a final year placement, will focus on sustainability and community development. The VISTA Member will be instrumental in recruitment of mentors and outreach to establish and foster community partnerships. They will actively seek out resources through corporate and individual community connections and raise awareness of the mentoring program. They will seek to expand the organization’s volunteer recruitment pool and create new marketing materials for the program. They will create a system to transfer information and procedures to the agency upon completion of their service year.
