20-21 UCA - DCPSS College & Career Coach
 
 
 
Serving in Roseburg, OR at Douglas County Partners for Student Success (DCPSS), directly serve youth by engaging them in personalized plans for their future careers and education. The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for 1) serving alongside Partner staff and volunteers to develop and deliver experiential learning opportunities including guidance for career and post-high school education planning 2) mentoring and coaching youth across the county who have been exposed to experiential learning and need further support in pursuing career options and post-high school education plans; 3) becoming familiar with services and resources available to youth to pursue post-high school education; 4) recruiting, serving with and coaching community volunteers willing to be industry mentors and post-high school education navigators 5) Coach youth to prepare for October 2020 and May 2021 STEAM Extravaganza 6) developing localized documents and standards of practice, based on experience and training, for mentoring youth transitioning from initial experiential learning exposure to career and post-high school planning/decision-making. United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) engages members in meaningful service to meet critical needs in SW Oregon. UCA projects improve access to community programs in project focus areas of Education, Economic Opportunity, Healthy Futures, and Environmental Stewardship. Members engage clients in their dedicated service project, and then use their experience to recruit, retain, and support community volunteers. Members serve full-time for 11 months, totaling 1,700 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc). Member Duties : • Provide leadership and ongoing mentoring to students related to career and post-high school education planning • Build caring and supportive relationships with youth that foster respect and trust • Build personal skills in effective mentoring and knowledge of career and post-high school education tools and options for youth • Prepare and support youth to prepare exhibitions of projects and plans related to career and post-high school education planning • Serve with partners of Douglas County Partners for Student Success (DCPSS) and the Umpqua Valley STEAM Hub (UVSH) to identify youth needing support and mentoring • Develop localized documents and standards of practice for mentoring youth for post-high school career and education planning with partner of DCPSS and UVSH. • Cultivate student resources for the Bright Futures Umpqua website • Lead community-wide recruitment of volunteer mentors • Deliver mentoring training to community volunteers
