Literacy Leadership Program (MLC)

The Literacy Leadership Program is an AmeriCorps VISTA program aimed at eliminating poverty through education and community empowerment. As a Literacy Leader, you can work behind the scenes to create, enhance or expand literacy-focused programs for low-income, immigrant, or refugee children, youth, adults, or families. You will work side-by-side with seasoned professionals and committed volunteers at schools, community-based nonprofit organizations or local government agencies to build capacity for resource development, volunteer outreach, partnerships and content creation. In return, you will receive unique opportunities for personal and professional development, and for building marketable skills in a supportive environment. We are seeking motivated, passionate individuals who are ready to think creatively to help organizations develop, expand or enhance high-quality literacy services. In addition to benefits listed, Minnesota Literacy Leaders in our cohort receive individual professional development funds, monthly trainings, free produce shares with a local CSA, an Employee Assistance Program and subsidized Nice Ride memberships. Some individual host sites may provide additional benefits, such as housing assistance or emergency funds. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis until positions filled. The Minnesota Literacy Council fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. See our full diversity, equity and inclusion statement here: https://mnliteracy.org/about/diversity-inclusion.
