MTCC MSU Blackstone LaunchPad Outreach

The Blackstone Launchpad at Montana State University is an entrepreneur resource for students, alumni, and faculty offering coaching, ideation, and venture creation support. The goal of this project is to reduce poverty throughout the state by developing and increasing economic opportunity, especially for underserved populations. Blackstone LaunchPad is designed to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and activity for the purpose of incubating a new generation of entrepreneurs who will contribute to the economic revitalization of their regions. The Blackstone LaunchPad goals are simple: Work with students one-on-one to introduce entrepreneurship as a viable career path and allow them to test their business ideas; Leverage campus resources and local business communities to build a tighter network of support and resources that will provide the skills, knowledge, and guidance needed to transform new ideas into viable companies; Help young ventures succeed and in so doing contribute to the economic rebirth of local economies; Link Blackstone LaunchPads from different regions to share expert networks and best practices. 15.4% of Montanans live at or below poverty, compared to 14.8% nationwide. Most of Montana’s rural landscape does not provide economic opportunities; Blackstone LaunchPad at MSU provides opportunities to underserved students from these rural communities to pursue entrepreneurial careers. These careers provide opportunity to return to their rural towns and create economic opportunity for themselves and others in their community. The VISTA will play a key role in supporting this goal by increasing Blackstone LaunchPad's ability to serve disadvantaged first generation, non-traditional students, women, Native Americans, and Veteran students.
