SERVE Philadelphia Meals & More Coordinator
 
 
 
The Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity is currently looking for a Meals and More Coordinator VISTA. Through the Philadelphia Food Access Collaborative, the Mayor’s Office has united community leaders, providers, volunteers, City government representatives, and hungry individuals to form a coordinating body to improve the coordination of services among community organizations and develop more inter-agency efforts within City government to better leverage complementary services. An outgrowth of this work is the Meals and More initiative, which seeks to bring best practices in emergency meal services to soup kitchens operating throughout the city. The overall goals of this work are to: 1) Increase access to emergency food in a safe and dignified setting; 2) Better connect individuals that experience hunger to resources to help to stabilize their lives in order to become self-sufficient and reduce food insecurity, 3) Improve the nutrition of emergency meals to reduce health challenges among guests.

Member Duties : (1) develop the infrastructure and protocols to disseminate information to social service providers, individuals in need, and the community about resources and services, and increase communication among meal sites; (2) develop trainings to improve services at meal sites, increase provider and volunteer knowledge of resources to better support the needs of individuals experiencing food insecurity; and (3) develop an infrastructure to enable soup kitchens to provide healthy meals.
