Cumberland County Positive Youth Development Coalition
New Jersey Campus Compact is building a cohort of AmeriCorps VISTA members to support the anti-poverty work of 18 large-scale, cross-sector organizations focused on increasing education, economic opportunity, and healthy futures. One of our partners is the Cumberland County Positive Youth Development Coalition’s (CCPYDC). CCPYDC is one of several planning boards supported by the NJ Office of the Attorney General. CCPYDC, along with all of the planning boards, CCPYDC seeks to improve community safety by helping economically disadvantaged students find the services they need to succeed educationally and ultimately in the job market. CCPYDC, like all of the planning boards, is comprised of local government agencies, law enforcement, higher education, public schools, educators, faith-based and community based organizations, nonprofits, and residents who work together to promote positive youth development and curb juvenile delinquency. CCPYDC, and all of the planning boards, conduct annual community data walks, track progress, engage the community, explore funding to expand proven interventions, and research evidence-based policies and programs the community and service providers can adopt. The CCPYDC VISTA assignment is designed to further this important work. The CCPYDC VISTA member will be 1 of 8 planning board VISTAs.
