WSC, City of Auburn, Veterans Services

The City of Auburn’s Veterans Service project is a part of the City’s Community Services Division. Piloted in 2014, the project began development a few years ago with the goal of providing Veterans with easy access to numerous services and resources that include but are not limited to housing, employment, education, health and wellness as well as services targeted to military families. Over the next 4 years Joint Base Lewis McChord will release thousands soldiers from their service and it is anticipated that 75% of those individuals will choose to establish permanent residence in the Puget Sound. In order to accommodate those soldiers transitioning into civilian life the City of Auburn developed its program to ensure all Veteran and military personnel receives has access to the resources and tools they need to successfully transition out of the military and into civilian life. As a city with a long reputation of being “Veteran Friendly,” we wanted to enhance that reputation and become “Veteran Supportive,” to all current and prospective military residents of Auburn. To accomplish this goal the City has continued and established new partnerships with local, regional, statewide and national Veterans organizations that are both private and public. A cardinal part of the program is sustaining these relationships to strengthen the network of available services. In addition to relationship and systems building the program heavily involves direct services with Veterans, military personnel and family members seeking resources. To meet the program’s needs, applicants should have an interest and a genuine passion for serving Veterans and their families. This position is contingent on funding.
