HRDC Café Workforce Development Program

HRDC is a 501(c)3 non-profit Community Action Agency dedicated to building a better community through innovation and leadership. We provide programs and services in the areas of Housing, Food & Nutrition, Child & Youth Development, Senior Empowerment, Community Transportation, Home Heating–Energy–Safety, and Community Development. The Community Café is part of HRDC’s Emergency Food and Nutrition Initiative, striving to improve food security throughout the Gallatin Valley. Our Café provides a restaurant style dinner service to anyone who eats regardless of their ability to contribute. We operate on a pay what you can model, allowing those who can contribute to pay it forward for others who cannot. In 2014 we provided over 50,000 dinners. Our dinner is prepared by the culinary workforce training program. This culinary workforce training program aims to provide chronically under and unemployed individuals with opportunities for gainful, lasting employment. The VISTA will help develop the culinary workforce training program to increase the skills and personal abilities of program participants so that they may achieve their goals, gain financial independence and build the credentials and resources necessary for a successful livelihood by creating higher level training options along the career pathway. The VISTA will expand the program by engaging community partners to create work sites specifically for program graduates entering the job market. This program alleviates poverty by lifting the barriers preventing individuals from successfully entering the workforce and retaining employment. Coupled with comprehensive wrap-around services, the participants aren't just tossed into the workplace; they are guided into mentored pathways where they have the structure to get a running start and the security to know they are always supported no matter what they face.
