Healthy Homes Housing&Community Development Network

The Network’s healthy homes agenda remains an integral part of its work on behalf of its members especially as the link between health and foreclosure rates become more evident. As part of this work, VISTA members will help educate member organizations and the thousands of low and moderate-income individuals they represent on the importance of lead screening in the schools and on the Lead Hazard Control Assistance Fund, which was set up in 2004 to allocate resources to remove lead from older homes by offering deferred payment loans or grants to property owners. Another area of education will include the NJ Healthy Corner Store Initiative to bring healthier food options and economic benefits to NJ communities. The healthy homes campaigns are designed to increase awareness on key issues affecting communities and pose a great opportunity for VISTA member engagement. The Vista members will be involved in helping educate member organizations in three specific ways. First, they will help coordinate and mobilize the large, connected cohort of members and partners to raise awareness of the issue. Second, they will research and identify barriers member organizations face and possible solutions. Finally, Vista members will work with Network staff to provide training, technical assistance, materials, and resources to address the need. As part of all healthy homes campaigns, VISTA members will support the Network’s goal to increase awareness on issues affecting healthy homes. Vista service area will cover NORTHERN NJ.
