Youth Engagement Coordinator VISTA- PPL- C3TC

Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-income people to become self-reliant through integrated services. Our mission: PPL builds the hope, assets, and self-reliance of individuals and families who have lower incomes by providing transformative affordable housing and employment readiness services. PPL began as an affordable housing developer in 1972, and has since become a robust multi-service agency that today serves more than 13,000 low-income people annually. PPL has had significant organizational transformations throughout our history. Response to community need is the root of these evolutions. PPL’s LEAP program model brings together partners across multiple sectors—workforce development organizations, government, contract alternative schools, Minneapolis Public Schools, post-secondary education institutions, and the national Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program—to create a coordinated resource for youth to get to high school graduation and beyond. The population we serve are young people (ages 15-24) engaged in county systems (e.g. juvenile justice, homeless, welfare, foster care). Young people are predominantly persons of color (85%), with African Americans especially overrepresented. Additionally, nearly one-third of county-involved youth are classified as homeless at some point during their school years and the vast majority qualify for free and reduced priced lunch programs. **This position is part of the C3 Twin Cities VISTA Program. C3 Twin Cities offers a unique cohort experience rooted in a social justice framework. It also offers $300 of monthly housing support, transportation support and professional development opportunities. Check out www.c3twincities.org for more details.
