ShareCorps-NOCAC-Financial Empowerment Impact Specialist
 
 
 
Northwest Ohio Community Action Commission (NOCAC) is a locally controlled, private, non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1965. NOCAC is a primary source of direct support for more than 5,500 low-income households in our six-county jurisdiction. NOCAC also operates a homeless shelter/soup kitchen and facilitates a variety of community programs including: publicly-funded childcare, Head Start/early childhood education, summer foods programs, free tax preparation clinics, and home weatherization assistance and repair. In 2015 NOCAC program achieved the following: • Served 465 children, ages 3-5, and their families through Head Start • 63 households were served through Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing programs • Provided 17,110 lunches to 2,384 unduplicated children, engaging 926 volunteers who donated 3,481 hours of service through summer foods program • 1,100 tax returns were filed by volunteer counselors who donated 569 hours of their time • Processed 11,761 applications for home energy assistance programs resulting in 746 utility payments and 2,188 vendor payments • Provided 10,290 meals, sheltered 190 homeless individuals and provided 4,485 nights of emergency shelter NOCAC is VISTA sub-site of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ShareCorps program.

Member Duties : As the Financial Empowerment Impact Specialist with the Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission you will work with a dynamic team committed to helping low-income individuals and families achieve their financial goals. You will have the opportunity to establish community partnerships to eliminate barriers like childcare that would otherwise keep participants from participating in our programs. You’ll research, develop and design volunteer training opportunities, expand our current marketing resources for social services promotion, recruit volunteers and support our summer foods and tax programs. You’ll also get experience in public speaking, grant writing, training facilitation and a variety of professional development opportunities.
