2016 Volunteer Outreach and Retention VISTA (826LA)
 
 
 
826 National will work with Corps 18 volunteers to build the organization’s capacity to work with underserved youth in order to develop essential writing and creative thinking skills that lead to academic success. Corps 18 volunteers will support volunteer recruitment, program development, and organizational capacity building in seven different writing and tutoring centers located in seven urban areas across the country (San Francisco, Ann Arbor/Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, and New York).

Member Duties : *Expand volunteer corps to reach more students and educators in South Los Angeles with 826LA’s free writing and tutoring programs.*With 826LA staff, research, and review volunteer management program, including recruitment, training, retention practices, background checks, database, and sign-up systems.*Develop volunteer organization partnerships to sustain volunteer corps pipeline.* Review existing volunteer partnerships with local colleges and organizations to engage students in individualized mentoring opportunities at 826LA’s youth literacy programs.* Identify new potential volunteer partnerships through new college and community organization partners.*Create assets for volunteer retention at Manual Arts High School.*Provide for the sustainability of the project.* Develop systems to track and archive new volunteer organization partnership contacts.
