MTCC - YMCA Gallatin Valley - Summer Associate
 
 
 
The Gallatin Valley YMCA (GVYMCA) in Bozeman, MT is a cause-driven inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve our community’s health and well-being, and by giving back and providing support to our neighbors. With the help of the YMCA’s financial assistance program, no child or family is turned away from participating due to the inability to pay. Our belief is that by opening our doors and bringing people together through participation in quality programs, we will ultimately not only enrich the lives of each individual, but also strengthen the foundation of our community. This project will prevent summer learning loss by providing low-income youth with enrichment programs to increase literary skills, engage youth in STEM, and ensure youth have access to nutritious meals during the summer months. These type of activities help communities break the cycle of poverty by showing children from low income households that they can take an interest in STEM related careers, while preventing summer learning loss and hunger.

Member Duties : The summer associate will travel to each of the Gallatin Valley YMCA summer program sites and present nutrition programs to students. The nutrition associate will also be responsible for planning snacks for the summer programs including shopping and delivering of snacks to each site and informing Site Coordinators of serving sizes for campers. The Summer Associate will work with youth on a daily basis to guide them in social interactions with peers and adults. The goal of STEM integration into our summer day camp programs is to engage youth with fun, hands-on activities that are required in almost all STEM fields. The Summer Associate will assist in the successful implementation of the Gallatin Valley YMCA's Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program (Y Achievers); including but not limited to: administrative support, program planning and implementation, communication with school districts, lesson plan creation, & parent communication.
