YMCA Immigrant & Opportunity Youth VISTA Project (Yonkers 2)

The YMCA of Yonkers is thoroughly committed to the YMCA belief that "We build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities." Our Y’s focus is on the natural, individual and family strengths, the inherent desire of all human beings to belong to a positive community, and the societal goal of youth living in a supportive, loving, safe, secure family system. It is our belief that a positive community, a sense of membership, and the mutual provision of respect and appreciation lends to the development of healthy, strong and capable youth and their families. The Vista volunteer will play a lead role in formalizing existing linkages around newcomer community work and firming up existing relationships. This includes memorandums of understanding, assisting with the formal development of a Newcomer Coalition, expanding volunteer recruitment and formalizing opportunities for philanthropic giving. The volunteer will play a key role in developing a newcomer needs assessment. The VISTA Newcomer Immigrant Coordinator will assist in developing new relationships and strengthening existing community partnerships with regards to streamlining immigrant participation. The Coordinator will develop and monitor linkage agreements and schedule routine coordination of services and outreach procedures in the community to further program effectiveness. The volunteer should possess an understanding of community organization and a history of assisting immigrant in community assimilation. Compassion to the underserved and commitment to the betterment of the individual and community is essential. The YMCA offers an environment where support for growth career development is one of our core responsibility. The YMCA offers opportunity for travel and the volunteer will routinely represent the YMCA in community-based meetings and partnerships.
