**MTCC Missoula Food Bank - Kids Table Summer Programming

Missoula Food Bank’s mission is to lead the movement to end hunger in the community through activism, volunteerism and healthy food for all. Missoula Food Bank and partners across the community work to promote and manage engaging, accessible summer meal sites for local kids. Historically, during the summer months, Kids Table Summertime provides healthy meals, snacks and weekend backpacks to children participating in programs that offer summertime opportunities to children living in poverty and homelessness. We continue to partner across Missoula with 18 different camps and programs to ensure nutrition is not a barrier to success for local kids. In addition to these “closed” sites (where enrollment is required), last year Missoula Food Bank piloted an open lunch site at Missoula Public Library, where any child, 18 and under, can get a healthy meal for free. This partnership with our local library is the first of its kind in the state, and is a model nationwide that has rendered impressive results. In summer 2016, Missoula Food Bank will expand its lunch efforts at Missoula Public Library, a high-need neighborhood accessible to all children, as well as open the city’s first Supper site at the Burns Street Commons. Located in the Northwide/Westside neighborhood, the Burns Street Commons will offer an afternoon meal to all children 18 and under on a drop-in basis. Between the two sites, we expect to serve 150 children each day, and hope the program grows throughout the summer.
