2018 Disaster Resilience AmeriCorps VISTA- Houston, TX
 
 
 
VISTA member will 1- Continue to build, maintain, cultivate and utilize partnerships with emergency management, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters, local institutions of higher learner, community leaders and target population leadership to leverage effective outcomes. 2- Grow and build capacity of the LEP Advisory Group to inform the community engagement process with target population. 3-Analyze and utilize survey data to develop and implement a community engagement strategy to educate target population to receive, understand and act on disaster warnings. 4- Develop and implement sustainability strategy to maintain partnerships and capabilities in support of LEP disaster preparedness. 5- Special emphasis is given to developing on going working relationships with local emergency management and integrating disaster preparedness delivery mechanisms across the catholic charities host agency. Strong outreach and community organizing skills needed.

Member Duties : This assignment is the 3rd year of the Disaster Resilience Program and will build off the two previous years’ work. The VISTA will continue to build and maintain partnerships with emergency management, VOAD/COAD, academia, community leaders and target population leadership by updating the demographic assessment of the LEP community, raising awareness, and continuing outreach. The VISTA will continue to build capacity of the Advisory Group: which will include assessing the effectiveness of the previous year work done and create sustainability by submitting findings and recommendations. The VISTA will analyze and utilize year two outcomes and updated demographic data to develop and implement a community engagement strategy to educate target population to receive, understand and act on disaster warnings. The VISTA will also evaluate, revise, and grow sustainability strategy for effective partnerships and capabilities in support of LEP disaster preparedness.
