VYT-VT Youth Tomorrow Leader

PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: VYT places 21 VISTA members at sites across Vermont to build capacity and promote high-quality programs and initiatives that address poverty and its effects. VYT sites include health and mental health agencies, food security organizations, colleges, municipalities, teen centers, as well as mentoring, afterschool, arts, job skills, & entrepreneurial programs. With a focus on healthy futures, education, & economic opportunity, VISTAs develop financial resources; recruit & manage volunteers; create program curricula; expand & enhance public & community relations; and ensure that low-income youth & families have access to vital programs. Last year VYT VISTAs contributed to the long-term COVID-19 pandemic recovery in their communities by procuring more than $458,292 in resources; supporting 6,921 community volunteer hours, & building the capacity of initiatives benefitting 43,496 Vermonters. VYT provides comprehensive monthly skill-building & professional development training; hands-on opportunities to create & implement programs; & a strong support network of staff, community, & AmeriCorps members. Through commitment, imagination, & perseverance, VISTAs make long-lasting, positive impacts on communities-in-need. VYT VISTAs cite a high degree of satisfaction with their service & an ongoing commitment to life-long civic engagement. Previous VISTA, NCCC, AmeriCorps, FEMACorps, or Peace Corps service required. Office is in Berlin, VT. Visit www.vermontyouthamericorps.org or contact dshaw@wcysb.org to learn more.
