Umoja Community Development Corporation (EMERGE)

Umoja Community Development Corporation (UCDC) was created from the vision of involved Realtors and community developers who have brought many initiatives and economic opportunities to the community. UCDC has collectively invested over 60 years in housing, homeownership education, community and economic development advocacy in underserved communities in which they live and serve. Our mission is to plan, execute and effectuate projects, programs, and policies through unified collaborations, which support community revitalization and promote homeownership. Our vision is to build inclusive communities where all people can attain homeownership and benefit from community development opportunities. This position will assist in the development of our current programming and building and growing relationships with other non-profit organizations that service the community with similar programming. Over the next 3-5 years, we intend to substantially increase the number of households served as well as engage in the economic growth and development through affordable homeownership. Ultimately, we plan to offer not only homebuyer education, housing counseling, and community development assistance but also be able to provide financial services such as down payment assistance. This position will be critical in assisting in that growth by conducting research, growing and fostering relationships, and attaining additional funding opportunities.

Member Duties : The member selected will perform outreach to our past program participants and other community organizations with the hopes of improving outcomes for future participants. You will recruit, coordinate and manage volunteers. Interested parties should be comfortable with hosting community awareness workshops and writing as we’ll provide the opportunity to develop your grant writing skills. Developing relationships with financial lenders and other community organizations will give you the opportunity to network with like-minded people who are interested in making home ownership an attainable goal for people re-entering the community. You’ll also help create our Ambassador program which will be essential in documenting our successes, re-engaging former participants and telling our story. Your goal will be to help build capacity for our organization to reach people in disenfranchised communities; we want to reach individuals who aren’t feeling empowered enough to pursue home ownership.
