California Safe Corps - Commerce

The California Safe Corps program is an AmeriCorps service opportunity sponsored by the American Red Cross. Our program's mission is to make vulnerable communities more resilient, and to empower citizens to take necessary steps to be prepared for disasters. This role has three primary focuses: 1) Support the preparedness of community members, particularly under-served populations, through the delivery of preparedness training, CPR/First Aid instruction and Sound the Alarm events; 2) Respond to local emergencies as an active member of the Disaster Action Team; 3) Support the recovery of community members and families who have been affected by disasters such as house fires and other local emergencies. Members serve in a full-time capacity for 10.5 months at one of our American Red Cross Chapter operating sites. Safe Corps members receive a bi-weekly stipend of $782.60, health insurance, and a $5,920 Education Award upon successful completion of the program. Childcare assistance is also available to those who qualify. Visit our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CASafeCorps/) to see our team in action!
