Enter your program description (2000 characters or less) *: Maine Campus Compact (MCC) is a coalition of 18 member campuses whose purpose is to catalyze and lead a movement to reinvigorate the public purposes and civic mission of higher education. We seek to transform our campuses in ways that develop better informed, active citizen problem-solvers, stronger communities, and a more just democratic society. We believe that our campuses must be vital agents and architects of a flourishing democracy. MCC’s VISTA Program is focused on the development of high-quality, sustainable programs on campuses throughout Maine with the aim to increase access to, and success during, higher education for low income individuals through programs focused on improving college aspirations, increasing civic engagement among students, faculty and staff, and increasing access to higher education for low-income individuals. MCC is currently recruiting for a team of 9 VISTAs to serve at host site campuses across the beautiful state of Maine.

Member Duties : As part of a dynamic team in the Community Engagement & Career Development office, University of Southern Maine's AmeriCorps*VISTA STEM Ambassadors Coordinator will be a catalyst for the development of University of Maine’s STEM Ambassadors program at USM, partnering with local schools to increase college aspirations, improve STEM literacy through hands on projects, and provide engaged learning opportunities for low income students. USM is a comprehensive public university of 8,000+ students in Portland, Maine. Local K-12 schools enroll students from families who have immigrated from Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, and more, as well as economically disadvantaged Maine-born students. These students may struggle to gain a social and economic foothold. This VISTA work supports USM students in preparing for life, work, and citizenship, while meeting community-identified needs. This position is located in Portland, Maine.
