Youth Programming Coordinator-WFNU Frogtown Radio (CSP)

WFNU-LP Community Radio is a low power FM broadcasting from the heart of the Frogtown Neighborhood of St. Paul. As one of the most racially and ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the Twin Cities, residents of Frogtown are often underrepresented in mainstream media; any mention of the neighborhood, more often than not, is a negative portrayal. Frogtown has a long history of disenfranchisement and economic burden leading to a lack of opportunity for residents to enter media and production fields. WFNU-LP both actively combats these issues and serves the community by offering a public access style FM station that is open to all community members to create their own original radio program that will broadcast to their neighbors and the surrounding area. The goal of WFNU-LP is to provide opportunities for women, people of color, and elders a rare chance to create media relevant to their neighborhood. Low power FM station are rare and most stations are still in their start up phase. WFNU-LP is only a few years old, and still getting its sea legs as it grows. This VISTA position will have a great deal of responsibility and is expected to be highly self-directed over the station and will work very closely with the Station Coordinator in imagining and planning the station’s future. The VISTA’s main responsibility will be to research and develop an original youth program for WFNU-LP to serve the Frogtown’s youth. **This position is part of the City of St. Paul VISTA Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members all serving within Saint Paul. We provide bi-weekly professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
