Dispute Resolution Center-School Liaison (CSP)

The Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) was created in 1982 and is the oldest community mediation program in Minnesota. DRC’s mission is to promote the constructive resolution of conflict through open communication and shared decision-making. It is the only program offering residents of the East Metro area of the Twin Cities free and low-cost volunteer-based mediation, conflict-resolution, and restorative services in court and community settings. DRC utilizes trained volunteers to help people work together to define issues and reach agreements, which helps build better relationships and improve communication. DRC’s Diversity Initiative is increasing underserved populations’ access to services and is diversifying the panel of volunteer mediators. In 2006, the DRC board chose to co-locate with the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency. DRC’s office is now located in the community center at Mt. Airy, one of the four Public Housing family sites. The overarching goal of DRC is to provide accessible, effective, and affordable alternative dispute resolution services and customized trainings to assist community members in the resolution of conflict and the development of peacemaking skills. The project will center on building DRC’s infrastructure to expand restorative measures to Saint Paul schools. It will involve outreach, volunteer training and management, and fundraising and grant writing activities. The VISTA member will work with staff, schools, and volunteers to develop relationships, as well as systems and materials to more clearly communicate and deliver services. DRC is looking for a motivated and adaptable individual to help DRC build its capacity to serve schools in Saint Paul. Apply today to join us in helping further our goal of engaging Saint Paul schools in restorative measures.
