West Chester University Health - PACC

The West Chester University Resource Pantry project is a collaborative initiative between the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs and Financial Aid that aims to address issues of food insecurity and poverty faced by university students. By building mutually beneficial partnerships with local churches, the Chester County Food Bank, and Assisting the Community Together in Faith, this pantry will serve the immediate hunger needs of university students struggling with financial hardships, while also providing access to additional resources such as toiletries, school supplies, and professional/winter attire. The Resource Pantry will work with several departments across campus to host financial literacy, life skills, and professional development workshops for students utilizing the services of the pantry. Along with student volunteers, students eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) will work in the Resource Pantry to not only give these students job opportunities on campus, but also increase their awareness of the services the pantry provides. These students will be included in the process of developing and further enhancing the functions and overall impact of the project. PA Campus Compact (PACC) VISTAs are part of a VISTA cohort of 30 members who are placed at higher ed. institutions across the state to build campus-community partnerships. PACC will provide professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the PACC*VISTA cohort throughout their year of service.
