The VISTA member will work to improve the health and wellbeing of residents by engaging community leaders, stakeholders, local agencies and businesses, and residents to develop and implement community driven, culturally appropriate and sustainable health initiatives and programs. As part of this project, the VISTA member will promote the health and wellbeing of these residents by engaging the neighborhoods in a community driven approach to take charge of their health and the health of their community. Activities will include establishing partnerships with community leaders, stakeholders, and residents from each of the 10 communities in helping to identify the health needs of the community and possible ways of addressing them to ensure that program development is based on community input. The VISTA member will assist with coordinating and facilitating Town Hall meetings, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews to collect and support the analysis of qualitative data. The VISTA will facilitate report writing to share results and help to create an implementation plan that outlines health and wellness concerns and a mechanism to help address those concerns. Overall, the goal of these activities is to develop implement community-driven, culturally appropriate, and sustainable health initiatives and programs for the residents in the Promise Zone communities that can be piloted, evaluated and sustained long after the VISTA member has completed their service.

Member Duties : 1. Develop and distribute fliers for community meetings and focus groups, as well as other outreach materials. 2. Other activities to assist with the development of health and wellness programs for the West Philadelphia Promise Zone communities. 3. Assist with schedule and facilitate community focus groups. 4. Assist with recruitment for community resident participation in the project. 5. Research and develop funding resources to ensure project sustainability through grant funding. 6. Write and submit grant proposals. 7. Develop relationships and partnerships within the community as needed to ensure different constituencies within the neighborhood are involved. 8. Maintain a network of volunteers. 9. Data collection and analysis and report writing.
