Franklin & Marshall - PACC

The F&M PACC VISTA will be placed at Reynolds Middle School in support of a collaborative approach to address the needs of the local refugee population. In January 2015, Reynolds Middle School launched a distinctive community school model established in response to an assessment conducted by the Lancaster County Refugee Coalition (LCRC). The Reynolds Community School is an initiative and physical location inside of Reynolds Middle School that provides crucial integrative services for refugees and their families. While the scope of services at the community school is broad, one of the initial foci’s is access to health care. SouthEast Lancaster Health Services opened a medical clinic within the facility and volunteers will assist refugees with protocols for establishing a primary care provider, acquisition of services, and facilitating non-traditional activities to create safe spaces to discuss mental health. The Reynolds Community School has one full time employee, the Community School Director (CSD), who plans and coordinates the proposed services. The F&M PACC VISTA will work closely with the CSD to expand and deepen the reach of services offered. In year two, the VISTA will build capacity of the Reynolds Community School by building infrastructure and data tracking, mobilizing volunteers, and expanding programs and partnerships. Through these tasks, the VISTA will accelerate the development of the Community School to optimize refugee resettlement and foster a healthier community. PA Campus Compact (PACC) VISTAs are part of a VISTA cohort of 30 members who are placed at higher ed. institutions across the state to build campus-community partnerships. PACC will provide professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the PACC*VISTA cohort throughout their year of service.
