Program Specialist - Ka Joog

Shaken up by Al Shabaab's recruitment of Somali young people from the Twin Cities, a group of concerned Somali high school and college students organized in 2007 to form Ka Joog and address critical challenges facing Minnesotan Somali youth. In the seven years since then, the award-winning Ka Joog has developed after school arts and educational programs serving 2,500 youth in three cities that focus on positive youth development, social inclusion, academic excellence, self-expression, critical thinking skills, and civic engagement. Ka Joog has received numerous awards, and has been a guest of the White House in 2013 and 2014. The Program Specialist will advance Ka Joog’s mission through a variety of capacity-building activities including: student-parent engagement; fundraising and development; and evaluation. The VISTA member will learn a variety of valuable skills necessary for running a nonprofit while providing critical support that will result in a long-term positive impact on the organization.
