Strong City/ Southwest Partnership Communication Coordinator
 
 
 
The Southwest Partnership (SWP), a coalition of seven neighborhood associations and six anchor institutions in Southwest Baltimore needs to build a self-sustaining, coordinated communication network in each of the seven neighborhoods in the Southwest Partnership area. The SWP was formed by its member neighborhood associations to build an awesome, healthy, architecturally beautiful, diverse, cohesive community of choice built on mutual respect and shared responsibility. To achieve this vision, the neighborhood associations must be able to share information and resources to members of their communities, hear their ideas, concerns, and needs, and involve as many community members in the process of community building as possible This position is sponsored by Strong City Baltimore in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve with the Southwest Partnership in Baltimore, MD. Strong City sponsors 30 VISTA projects at nonprofit, government, and community organizations throughout Baltimore City and Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, Strong City's mission is to build and strengthen neighborhoods and people. Strong City will provide support to the Southwest Partnership and the VISTA member throughout the year, including recruitment, training, resources, and professional development opportunities, and meetings

Member Duties : Project goal: At the end of the project, each neighborhood in the Southwest Partnership will have a self-sustaining, effective, trained, and coordinated communication network made up of 10 area residents in each neighborhood (the smallest neighborhood, Barre Circle, will have 5). The networks will also have access to a library of workforce development, housing, educational, commercial development, safety, and sanitation resources that can distributed in response to the expressed needs of community members The VISTA will: 1. VISTA will meet with neighborhood leaders and existing communication volunteers to develop recruitment and outreach plans for each of their neighborhoods, with a focus on external community events and recruitment sites. 2. Review the existing Resource Library, and the outline for the revised Resource Library and follow up with area service providers and area residents to fill in gaps. 3. Recruit, select, train new community volunteers.
